Um, are you serious? Isn't a local cable/internet company a contradiction in terms?

ha! great story Darryll, though, I must admit, my favorite part was your choice of Lily Tomlin as your photo. brilliant!

The basic complaint is still valid. If Darryl had been able to speak immediately to a rep who lived in Philly and *knew* Philly, the rep could have said something like "Are you sure you mean 1520? 1520 is an office building, while 1530 is an apartment building." You can't get this kind of knowledge or error recognition from computer databases.

Even among people who do live in a town, this feel for territory is fading fast. Here in Spokane the TV stations constantly get locations randomly and weirdly wrong. When a car hits a house in a location that is unquestionably West Central, one station will describe it as North Spokane, another will say East Spokane, and another will call it Downtown.

Wow, caps and exclamation marks. I guess every Presbyterian has his breaking point. But, trust me, I feel you.

Blaming globalization for the unwarranted anger you felt at the globalizers’ inability to respond to the inaccurate information you had given them in the first place? I can see that.

Well, I don't want to presume what level of sarcasm was in this comment, but while on one hand we certainly have to be willing to accept the responsibility for our own mis-doings, as Darryl seems to have done here, I do think there is something to be said for the the effect a globalized marketplace has on the formation of attitudes when dealing with other humans within that market. There is most definitely encouraged a sort of pretentious "I must be right" way of going about things that leaves little room for patience and willingness to assume that we in fact may be the ones erring. When our culture enforces a default state of competition, It seems difficult most times to stumble upon the recognition of our own mistakes.

Expect to do this a few times a week.

I've never once had to do so.

Strange. Even the globalizers can't globalize properly. Apparently, there was less human capital in your part of the country.

Even with a wrong digit, it shouldn't have been that complicated. Comcast is awful. When I had them, I found their service to be of poor quality and unreliable. AT&T U-Verse has been a thing of beauty for me.

Oh, free tip: When your Comcast internet inevitably stops working for no reason, you'll have to turn off the cable modem, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it on. Expect to do this a few times a week.

You're lucky Comcast is an option for you.

They are actually one of the best. I know because I've lived all over the country and had them all.

Another victory for international finance capitalism!

As someone who works at 1520 Locust St., and who pays Comcast for his internet, I want to thank you for this story. It brought a smile to my face this Friday morning.
