Offend away Mr. Scott...I find intelligent disputants such as yourself to be a pleasure. You land a good punch on occasion and this is a good thing. The 1890's have their "Gay 90's" sobriquet, the last 20's their "roaring" appellation and perhaps the Twenty Oughts will get their own proper descriptive: The Clusterboink Decade.

But, hopefully, the less said about GW Bush the better, his administration was a fruitless endeavor, stem to stern. Just as he made Nixon look positively alluring, Obama and his heirs and assigns will likely resurrect his legacy, spartan as it may be and this, to be sure, is a form of compliment. As to the Neo-conservatives, I am quite confident that much will remain to be both seen and heard from them because they decorate Empire with an almost Gothic abundance, they are like endless rounds in 50 caliber Automatic weapon and their media reps are the tracer fire. Without the Neo-Conservatives, more realtors would be put out of work in the tony enclaves of the Imperial Seat, the only real estate market in America retaining any kind of vigor....for now.

Carl, You sure don't offend me! And what I didn't say before is that much of the lingering conviction that the Report is true is on the wacko Christian Right. In fact, almost all of it.

Sabin, I seem to remember a certain someone saying that war would only end when a certain BIG EVENT happened. He also said something about the poor being everyday with it...something like that... Oh well...and have you read those funny lines by Aufidius's guards toward the end (4th Act, I think) of Shakespeare's Coriolanus?

Thank you John Wilson for this...I never knew what the Report from Iron Mountain was. Obviously a major and particularly hilarious piece of the 60s puzzle. Although I'm not sure that you see just how funny it was that it was (mostly) 1) the Oliver Stone-type radical chic liberals and 2) the managerial Great Society-type liberals that fell for it, with BOTH the brains of the real left and the real right laughing at how easy it was to dupe them. And, sorry to offend either you or Sabin, but so much of the aught's histrionic ugliness about Bush and the neocons fit this to a tee: "if it isn’t true, it should be" became "it must be true, since it should be." More than a few books and articles about Bush and the neocons had that flavor about them...and the same applies to endless aught-nonsense written about the growing, creeping, etc. power of the Christian Right.

Somebody needs to write a Iron Mountain to fit the theories of the Obama-paranoids right now...although maybe it'd be better not to.

The Berlin Wall may have come down and Germany reunited, but the Cold War , its heirs and assigns continues apace. The War on Terror is arguably a chapter of it, keeping the various forces occupied until hostilities between the major powers can be resumed. The U.S has obliged the Rope-A-Dope with vigor.

Gunpowder is the methamphetamine of the State. Anyone familiar with that twisted narcotic will understand the cruel relevance of the metaphor, meth...of course, allowing its degenerate addicts to scheme all manner of crimes while under its influence. It is a drug for busy demolition.

Thanks for this Willson, everytime one hears the phrase "Peace Dividend", you can hear the metallic clicking of the breach in the background...left, or right.
