The place and date of Front Porch Republic’s second annual conference have been set. We’ll get together on Saturday, September 15, at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. We will once again put contemporary political, economic, and cultural institutions and practices in the dock and ask how to put them on a more human scale.

Mark your calendars.

If you were at last year’s inaugural conference, you know that this will be a lot of fun. FPR readers are a diverse lot — academics, artists and musicians, business people, stay-at-home moms and dads, and pretty much everything in between. We traffic in ideas, but this isn’t an academic conference, thank God.  In fact, this year we’ll attempt to pay even more attention to the practical application and implications of decentralist ideas.

The lineup of speakers is still coming together — but hey, it’ll be good, and as we get details finalized we’ll let you know.

For now, you can register by making a $25 donation via Paypal and writing “conference registration” in the special instructions line. That will save you $5 on registration at the door, which will be $30. Your pre-registration will also help us much with our planning, so please do pre-register if you are planning to come.

Student registration is $20 now, $25 at the door. Just write “student registration” in the memo line.

Your registration fee will include a light breakfast and your lunch.

If you donate $100 or more between now and August 15, we’ll invite you to a special dinner on the evening of Friday, September 14 with some of the speakers and FPR editors. We’ll also recognize you for your generosity on the conference materials.

Would you like to sponsor a poor, Ramen-addled student; to do that, simply make a gift of $25 and type in “student sponsorship” in the special instructions. We’ll let in a deserving student for free, and we’ll use your support to offset the costs.

If you have any questions — or if you would like to make a special gift in support of this conference or any other aspect of FPR’s work — please write me at beerjeremy [at] hotmail.com.

Keep an eye here for more details. We hope to see you in September!

  1. The first one was excellent. I hope to attend the FPR meeting at Hope College, as well.
