William Matthew McCarter

William Matthew “Matt” McCarter writes fiction and studies literature for a living. He is a Professor of Literature at Southwestern Illinois College, holds a PhD in Literature from the University of Texas at Arlington, and is finishing an MFA in Creative Writing at Lindenwood University. His scholarship on class and rural identity in America includes the book Homo Redneckus: On Being Not Qwhite in America. His fiction comes straight out of the working-class Missouri Ozarks and has run in Reckon Review, Bending Genres, and elsewhere. His first novel, Cornbread Voodoo and Crawdaddy Gumbo, is forthcoming from All Things That Matter Press.
