Late last week I received notice that jolly Prince Charles will be speaking at Georgetown on the future of food, fresh from his oldest son’s nuptials. While that news was not exciting enough to move me to toss my hat into the lottery for a ticket, I’ve since learned that both Wendell Berry and Wes Jackson will be appearing on a subsequent panel at the same conference.

UPDATE: Apparently only holders of Georgetown University I.D.s are eligible to gain entry to any of the events. My apologies for faulty information, and for being a tease.

  1. Holy cow! Wendell Berry, Marion Nestle, Eric Schlosser, and Wes Jackson? That’s my whole Politics of Food curriculum right there. Sometimes, I really miss living in DC.

  2. Will the panel on “Health and Nutrition” be anything but promotion of conventional wisdom on diet and nutrition?

  3. Good sense restricted to the ivory tower, how utterly academic…and in fact, princely.

    “Impacts upon Ordinary People”. My, what a prosaic concept.

    It was so academic, so princely, in fact, that even a Georgetown student couldn’t get one of their locally prepared, organic, eco-friendly boxed lunches, surplus of which, in the truest spirit of sustainability, were surely thrown out.

    Wendell was great, but otherwise, you didn’t miss much.
