Wendell Berry to Deliver 2012 Jefferson Lecture

Purcellville, VA. Our readers will be delighted to know that Mr. Wendell Berry has been named the 41st Jefferson Lecturer in the Humanities.

The 2012 Jefferson Lecture, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, will honor Mr. Berry’s distinguished accomplishments as a writer, poet, farmer, and conservationist. As NEH Chairman Jim Leach noted in Monday’s press release, “Wendell Berry is an American treasure whose prose and poetry have—with subtlety, intelligence, and conviction—helped open our eyes to the importance of respecting and living with nature.”

Mr. Berry will give his address, “It All Turns on Affection,” on Monday, April 23 at 7:30 pm. If you live in the area, please join local FPR readers for the event at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Looks like it’s already “sold out.” Please let us know if he will be doing any other speaking engagements in the area during his stay in Washington.
