Native son and caustically loving biographer of our country Gore Vidal  (http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/the-last-republican) has died. Don’t mourn; read: Burr, Lincoln, Screening History, Homage to Daniel Shays, United States, The Last Empire….

Michelle Bachmann said she decided to become a Republican and seeing how disrespectfully he treated the Founding Fathers. I guess she thought of Vidal as a Democrat. Apparently it never crossed her mind that Vidal was telling the simple truth. Human? They were all VERY human.

@Siarlys Jenkins
Vidal ran for office twice as a Democrat so Bachmann seems to be right.

Gore Vidal was a gifted talent but was not a especially good person and never tried to be either. The only other literary figure that matches his sort would have to be the Marquis DeSade.

I never said he was a good person. From what little I’ve read, I don’t think I would want to spend time with him socially. But he was a great and accurate author. Whether he wrote as a Democrat or was a quintessential Democrat I don’t know. David Duke ran as a Republican.
