How New England can change the world?

In the 1830s, Alexis de Tocqueville saw the New England townships as bastions of local freedom. Perhaps not much has changed between then and 2010. Reader Matthew Schmid shared this article about the recent surge in local currency in New England.

Rachel Blum Spencer

Dr. Rachel Blum is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center at the University of Oklahoma. She specializes in political parties, congressional communication, public opinion of Congress, and computational methods. She received her PhD at Georgetown University in May 2016. Prior to her appointment at the University of Oklahoma, she held a faculty appointment at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

    Home rule and Town Meetings, how quaint…..and authentic….and efficient. Funny though , a lot of those folks spending Berkshire bucks are New York and Bean Town weekenders. Still, not far south from Great Barrington, a certain Mr. Shays had em nervous
